The doll is a tool the creature utilizes in order to spy on its potential victim. Through some kind of magic, those black button eyes see the world of the intended target and report back to their master. This information is then used to build a world that the victim would love. I started with LDD and then exported to Stud.io to finish the design and upload to Bricklink.

From the button-shaped doorknob to the button-eyed rag dolls, these little touches add an element of creepiness that heightens the atmosphere. The ghost children reach out and help her pull the door closed (repaying her kindness) but one of the Beldam's hands is severed. Coraline rushes back to her apartment as the portal starts to close and the Beldam wails. Coraline makes it back to the house, and slams and locks the door.

It's only when Coraline is able to see things for how they truly are that she's able to defeat the Beldam. The first is with a kind of seeing stone fashioned for her out of old candy. When looking through it, she is able to spot the weak spots in the Beldam's magic. This allows her to find the missing eyes of the ghost children hidden in plain sight. Although her primary intention is to escape, Coraline can't let those ghosts remain trapped for eternity.

The fact that this house is depicted as old also plays with the dark and mysterious theme of the movie. A house as big and old as Coraline’s, with only three people living in it, two of which work, makes the house experience cold, lonely and creepy. These feelings are reciprocated by Coraline, which is why she goes snooping around her house. This snooping leads her to a mysterious square door in a spare bedroom of her house. Little does she know this door will soon change how she perceives her life.

Her Other Mother and Father, however, never hesitate to use her correct name. The first thing we see in "Coraline" is a doll floating through a window. Mechanical hands strip the doll of its filling and turn it inside out. Although we're watching a skilled craftsperson make an old doll new again, it looks more like an autopsy. With medical precision, the stitches are removed and the insides removed.
Coraline Jones (Dakota Fanning) is bored in her new home until she finds a secret door and discovers an alternate version of her life on the other side. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life and the people in it – only much better. This theme of ‘home’ is challenged in this part of the movie, and the writer questions what home means. The architecture in which you live isn’t called home; instead, a home is a feeling you cultivate by building relationships and forming memories.
It was incredibly complicated to get all the angles to meet up. I wouldn’t consider it a flawless execution by any means, but I was getting to a point where I just needed to get it done. So once the math finally worked out and I’d hit the maximum piece limit, I had to leave it in a “good enough” state.
When Coraline goes to throw the key in the well, the trees are in bloom or Cherry Blossoms. As the movie ends, Coraline, who has been through a terrible and terrifying journey back home, appreciates her surroundings, hugs her real parents, and has a newfound love for the idea of a home. This journey to the Other World has taken the fear of being herself out of her, and she opens herself up to her surroundings to make her real house a proper home.

She doesn't play by the rules, but she can't refuse a challenge. I have had some fun conversations with our lighting engineer, Matt DeLeu. He was fixing something on the original house while I was running lights through my LEGO house in preparation for a photo shoot of them side-by-side. The work he does is really incredible and adds such an exceptional element to the films. Seeing Coraline’s house lit up all those years ago was truly inspirational.
A jumping mouse circus has 61 mice on-screen (and took 66 days to animate), and an entire audience of Scottie dogs, 248 strong, watches a theatrical performance. That’s because while stop-motion creates a fantastical imaginary world, the addition of the third dimension makes it so unblinkingly real we feel we could walk around in it. The third dimension is how the universe rattling around in Selick’s head gains authenticity on-screen, and to watch it unfold that way makes the theatrical experience feel special in a way it often hasn’t in years. Today, we’re here to talk with another PortLUG member and LEGO Ideas entrant… Let’s meet Holly Webster, and learn more about her LEGO model of Coraline’s Pink Palace Apartment, based on the 2009 animated movie Coraline. The trail to the orchard is a way, which (in the film) starts at the garden and ends in the orchard - near the well. Pass the garden, walk on the way to the hill, and when you are at the hight hills, follow the trail to the orchard.
